Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Severe traffic congestion near Howrah Maidan Metro Station due to unregulated bus, toto, and auto movement continues to disrupt daily commutes. On Tuesday, a man was fatally run over by a 71-number bus as multiple buses rushed to overtake each other. Eyewitnesses reported that small vehicles, including totos and autos, had already clogged the area, worsening traffic conditions. The on-duty traffic police immediately took the victim to Howrah District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His identity is yet to be confirmed.
Despite regular police presence, traffic violations in the area remain frequent, with buses and smaller vehicles often blocking roads. Commuters have raised concerns over the lack of enforcement, urging immediate steps to regulate vehicle movement and prevent further accidents. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and assess the situation to improve traffic management in the area.
